His Excellency Mr. Abdulla Shahid, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Singapore today.

At the meeting held at the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs , Minister Shahid briefed on the developments and policy priorities in the Maldives since President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih assumed office in November last year. The two Ministers reflected on the existing friendly relations between the two countries. Further discussion were focused on issues of mutual interests and to enhance the bilateral cooperation, on various areas that are of significance to the Maldives.

On the multilateral front, Minister Balakrishnan warmly welcomed Maldives re-joining the Commonwealth. He also appreciated and encouraged the environmental stewardship of the Maldives on the international stage.

Minister Shahid thanked Minister Balakrishnan for Singapore’s continued support towards the development of Maldives.

Minister Shahid was accompanied at the call by His Excellency Dr. Abdulla Mausoom, Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to Singapore and Ms. Eman Hussain, Deputy Ambassador at the Embassy of the Republic of Maldives in Singapore.
