Since the establishment of diplomatic relations on 20th February 1975, ties between the two countries have grown steadily. Singapore is one of the most important development partners for the Maldives, and Singapore’s contribution to national progress in the Maldives has taken many forms.

Co-operation between the two countries had strengthened in numerous areas, including aviation and seafaring, defence and policing, higher education, employment, housing, health, justice, economic development and trade. The opening of the High Commission in 2007 emphasized the importance attached by Maldives to the bilateral relations that existed between Maldives and Singapore.

The High Commission of Singapore accredited to the Maldives is in Singapore. The High Commission (Non-Resident) is presently headed by High Commissioner Mr. SOO Kok Leng.
