Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, Moosa Zameer addressed today at the ‘Third Summit for Democracy’ convened by the Government of the Republic of Korea, under the theme “Democracy for Future Generations”.
In his remarks, Foreign Minister Zameer highlighted the commitment of the Government of Maldives to uphold the principles of democracy, justice, and equality.
In particular, Minister Zameer underscored the efforts taken by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to nurture an independent civil society and, to ensure equal access to justice for all citizens. Additionally, Minister Zameer reflected on the Government’s initiatives on empowering youth and prioritizing women’s participation in the decision-making process and increasing women’s engagement in politics.
Minister Zameer also highlighted the fruitful collaboration between the Maldives and the United States in implementing reforms aimed at ensuring equal access to justice which led to the reorganization of the Maldivian court system.
Hosted by the President of South Korea Yoon Suk Yeol, the Third Summit for Democracy is being held in Seoul, South Korea from March 18th to 20th. Summit for Democracy is an initiative of the United States and was first launched in 2021.
