The government of Maldives has planned to develop 2 categories of Hospitals across Maldives depending on urban concentration and Health priorities based on the Strategic Action Plan (SAP).

Atoll Hospitals, Bed Capacity 50 bed design and build

  • Foot print 20,000-25,000 square feet (based on the service requirement could go up to four floors)
  • Accommodation Block: 10,000 square feet (maximum four floors) o 8 Apartments (2 rooms with attached toilets, 650 square feet per apartment unit and maximum four floors.
  • 8 Apartments (2 rooms with attached toilets, 650 square feet per apartment unit and maximum four floors.
  • 8 Apartments (01 room with attached toilet, 500 square feet per apartment unit and maximum four floors.
  • Expected Development cost of accommodation: USD 700,000.00 (estimate).
  • Expected Development cost of Hospital Building: 14.5 Million (estimate) with fixed furniture, oxygen and air-conditioning.
  • Finance Model: Contractor Financing:2-year grace Period and 10-12 year repayment. 

Mid Hospitals, with Bed Capacity 30 bed/ Desgn to be provided

  • Foot print 17,500 square feet (based on the service requirement could go up to three floors) 
  • Accommodation Block: 5000 square feet (maximum four floors) 
  • 4 Apartments (2 rooms with attached toilets, 650 square feet per apartment unit and maximum four floors.
  • 4 Apartments (01 room with attached toilet, 500 square feet per apartment unit and maximum four floors, 
  • Expected Development cost of accommodation: USD 350,000.00 (estimate) 
  • Expected Development cost of Hospital Building: 8.00 Million (estimate) with fixed furniture, oxygen and air-conditioning 
  • Finance Model: Contractor Financing:2-year grace Period and 10-12 year repayment.

We would also like to note that, being also a small island developing state, affected by climate change and its effects, it is imperative that health system of Maldives increases its capacity for protecting health in an unstable and changing climate. In this regard, Ministry of Health aims to develop the hospitals as Green, Climate Resilient Health facility to systematically and effectively address the challenges increasingly presented by climate vulnerability.
