President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih returned to Malé City on Tuesday after a two-day visit to Ukulhas Island in the Alifu Alifu Atoll. He visited the island to participate in the national-level celebrations of World Environment Day 2023.
At the function held Monday evening, President Solih highlighted the administration’s objective to transition the Maldives into a nation that prioritises environmentally friendly energy generation. This will be achieved by shifting towards renewable energy sources and reducing the country’s reliance on fossil fuels.
During his visit, the President visited the “Beat Plastic Pollution” festival. The festival showcased information about waste recycling, garbage disposal, and waste segregation. It also featured exhibits made of recycled plastic.
Earlier Tuesday, the President met with the members of the Island Council and the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) of Ukulhas Island. The President and the council members discussed the island’s socioeconomic development and the concerns of the island’s residents.
